Wheeler \u0026amp; Wilson was in the business of making sewing machines here in the United States from around 1853 to around 1913.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis box is very well made, showing tongue and groove joinery on all four corners of the box base and lid.\u003cbr\u003eThe inside top, and the inside bottom are lined with a deep purple velvet. The velvet does show some wear, but it is in surprisingly good shape for it's years. \u003cbr\u003eThe design on top looks like it may have been embossed. It is a beautiful design with scrolled acanthus leafs on either side of the circle with the \"WHEELER \u0026amp; WILSON SEWING MACHINES just inside making a circular border.
